Carpool is our road trip box: sealed parcels, numbered and wrapped, picked for the back seat. Everything inside is lap-sized, nothing scatters, and nothing needs a table.
Which box? Under three hours in the car, The Joyride. Three hours or more, The Scenic Route. If you're somewhere in between, go Scenic Route; the "are we there yet?" tickets are the part kids talk about afterward.
The Scenic Route · 4 parcels for drives of 3+ hours. Nº1 as you merge onto the highway, Nº2 after the first hour, Nº3 once the wiggles get to be too much, and Nº4 for the last stretch.
The Joyride · 2 parcels for drives of 1 to 3 hours. Nº1 at the on-ramp, Nº2 at the halfway mark.
Tell us the passenger's age (1 to 10) and we pack to it. Two kids in the back? Order one box per seat with each age; nothing repeats between them and there is nothing to share. Driving there and back? Tick "add the drive home" and the second box comes with entirely different contents. Orders over $100 ship free, so a Scenic Route plus any second box does.
Sending it as a gift? Ship it straight to the driver or to whoever is hosting, add a note at checkout and we'll tuck it in with the manifest card. Grandparents, this is how you become the one who sent the thing they talked about the whole way there.
The first run is 120 boxes, each numbered by hand at our kitchen table in Los Angeles. Ordered boxes ship the week of October 27, in time for Thanksgiving drives. Inside you'll find Petit Collage, Candylab, Mudpuppy, Usborne, HABA and friends.

What's inside, by age
Ages 1–2 · a HABA Rainbow Spiral or Cuddly Teether, Itzy Ritzy finger puppets, an Indestructibles book, and for age 2, a Usborne First Sticker Book. Soft, big and nothing to lose under the seat.
Ages 3–4 · travel bingo or a Usborne wipe-clean book, a Wild Republic nature tube, a Petit Collage magnetic play scene or Pipsticks dot-by-number stickers, and a Candylab wooden car.
Ages 4–6 · travel bingo or I Spy, a handheld water game, a Mudpuppy magnetic puzzle, and a Petit Collage magnetic scene or Pipsticks dot-by-number stickers.
Ages 6–10 · travel bingo or I Spy, Our World trivia or Mad Libs, a Mudpuppy magnetic puzzle, and paint-by-sticker.
The Joyride carries two of these, The Scenic Route all four.
How it works
Tuck the box up front and don't say a word about it. At the on-ramp, hand back Parcel Nº1. On The Joyride, Nº2 waits for the halfway mark. On The Scenic Route, Nº2 comes after the first hour, Nº3 once all three "are we there yet?" tickets are spent, and Nº4 is for the last stretch.
Wait for the on-ramp.
Then make the drive part of the adventure.
