Eight kraft parcels, numbered one to eight, tied with twine. One opens at the table each night of Hanukkah, once the candles are lit, with ten minutes of something to do together while they burn. A dreidel. A story. Something to make, something to give, one night of pure nonsense, and on the last night something that stays.

On the last night there is one card to fill in: who was at the table, the one thing to remember, and a drawing on the back from the smallest person. It goes in an envelope marked For next year, and the envelope goes wherever the menorah goes. A ninth parcel, navy, is for whoever lit the candles.

The rule, printed on the first thing they see: wait until the candles are lit.

The eight nights, one line each

Nº 1 · Give it a spin. A real painted wood dreidel. Little: one big hand-painted one from Ten Thousand Villages. Big: two from Jewish Educational Toys, with a house-rules card. The gelt is your department.
Nº 2 · Made by you. A Craft-A-Dreidel kit from Ner Mitzvah. Paint one tonight. It is not for you. Let it dry overnight.
Nº 3 · One more page. Little: Love Is a Candle. Big: Why We Celebrate Hanukkah. The candles are the reading light.
Nº 4 · Everybody in. A family game in a tin: Chanukah Memory from Ner Mitzvah for Little, Chanukah Find It First from Jewish Educational Toys for Big. Youngest goes first.
Nº 5 · Made to give. Kraft paper, twine, a blank tag, a sheet of stickers. Wrap the dreidel you painted on night two, write a name on the tag, and hand it across the table.
Nº 6 · Draw the table. A Hanukkah coloring tablecloth from Creative Crayons Workshop, big enough for everyone, and crayons. Don't stay in the lines.
Nº 7 · Get silly. Build the ugliest menorah in the house from nine of anything. A ribbon for the worst. Candles strictly pretend.
Nº 8 · See you next year. Their own Ner Mitzvah kids' menorah with its own candles, the one card, and the For next year envelope. Next year, they light it.
Nº 9 · For the shamash. One small navy parcel that isn't for the child. Open it alone, after night eight, once they're asleep.

Little or Big. Little is ages 2 to 5. Big is ages 5 to 9. The family nights are the same in both; the dreidel, the book and the game are picked for the hands that open them.

Two kids at the table? Add a second seat, $60: their own five parcels (nights 1, 2, 3, 6 and 8) and their own card, sharing the family nights with the first box. Both of them get to give.

Sending it to grandchildren? Add a note at checkout. It goes on the first card they see, in handwriting.

Pre-order and delivery. Every box joins the holding pattern: we pack it, hold it, and ship it on November 25 so it lands by December 3, the day before the first candle. Shipping included. Hand-numbered, packed in Los Angeles. Eight Nights returns every Hanukkah, and your number comes with it.

The whole story, and why there are eight.
